Juan Verde is an internationally renowned strategist specializing in sustainable economic development. He designs innovative strategies to attract investment, accelerate economic growth, and foster strategic alliances between the public and private sectors.
In the public sector, he was nominated by President Biden to the President’s Export Council, advising on trade-related issues and expanding business opportunities abroad. Previously, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia at the U.S. Department of Commerce under President Obama, where he led efforts to resolve trade and market-access issues for U.S. companies across 52 countries. He also worked in the Department of Commerce during the Clinton Administration in international trade and minority business development.
Juan has played a key role in political campaigns, serving as a policy advisor, fundraiser, and organizer for President Biden’s campaign and as Chair of Americans Abroad for Biden. He has collaborated with high-profile leaders, including Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He was also a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Fellow early in his career.
In the private sector, Juan Verde is Vice Chairman of Volcan Compañía Minera, a major Latin American mining company, and serves on the Board of Directors of HISPASAT and the Airbus Foundation Board of Advisors. He has consulted for global companies like Google, Cisco, SAS, American Express, and Banco Santander Investments US and has worked with institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank, Harvard University, and the World Bank. He is the Founder and President of Alamo Solutions LLC, a boutique strategic consulting firm.
A strong advocate for sustainability and leadership development, Juan played a key role in launching The Climate Reality Project in Spain and Argentina. He has been recognized among the 100 Most Influential Hispanic Leaders in the Fight Against Climate Change and the TOP100 Disruptive Managers and Leaders of 2021. He has also participated in COP25 and COP26, reinforcing his commitment to global sustainability efforts.
Juan is the President of the Advanced Leadership Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit dedicated to identifying and developing the next generation of business, social, and political leaders worldwide.
Academically, he holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University and a Bachelor’s in Political Science and International Relations from Boston University. He was elected to the Alumni Board of Directors at Harvard Kennedy School.
Recognized for his contributions, Juan has been decorated as a knight by the Sovereign Order of the Ecumenical Knights of Rhodes and Malta, and his work has been acknowledged by Pope Francis.In his free time, Juan enjoys horseback riding, hiking, and running marathons. His extensive travel schedule supports his various global initiatives in business, sustainability, and leadership development.
